3 Herbal teas for coffee-free mornings

This Honest Food - Herbal Tea
Steep your favorite aromatics for homemade herbal tea in seconds (c) Dawn M. Viola | This Honest Food

Of all the smoothies, juices, tinctures, and elixirs you can DIY, the simplest, and most comforting, is warm herbal tea.

If drying leaves and making tea bags has kept you from experimenting, don’t let that stop you — it doesn’t need to be that complicated. A little warm, filtered water is all you need to coax the phytonutrients, enzymes, antioxidants, flavor, and aroma out of the spices, herbs, and aromatics, and turn them into a cupful of comfort.

If you’re not keen on twigs and things floating around in your tea cup as you’re sipping, you can create a quick tea bag by placing all of your aromatics on top of a 3×3-inch square of cheesecloth, and tying the cheesecloth closed with cotton butcher’s string for instant dunking and easy retrieval.

The aromatics never have to be removed, and in fact, can remain in the cup when you’re ready to refresh with more water. These herbal teas can also be transferred to a thermal container or glass water bottle for on-the-go sipping, and also make great iced tea, too.

There’s no right or wrong, so have fun experimenting with aromatics until you find your favorite. Here are three of mine, for when I’m in the mood for coffee-free mornings:
