COOKING CLASS FAQ
What are holistic cooking classes?
For us, holistic and healthy means making everything from scratch, using whole foods and sourcing organic, humanely raised, and local options from area farms whenever possible. We focus on cooking techniques that bring out the best in food, providing the most nutrients, and when it comes to treats, we always find a way to make those a healthy part of the table, too.
All of our cooking classes integrate healthy cooking techniques, tips, and the latest culinary nutrition information, always coming from a place of neutrality, so that whichever food path you choose, we can help you understand the healthiest way to be on that path.
How do I register for a cooking class?
The quickest and easiest way to register for cooking classes is online via the Cooking Class Calendar, but youmay also register in the store at the check-out counter.
Do I need to bring anything with me to the class?
Bring your ticket/receipt you received via email, and yourself. We provide the apron, recipes, tools, and ingredients. If you have forgotten your ticket, you may check in using a valid ID.
Can I bring a friend with me to the cooking class?
Each person wishing to attend a class will need to purchase a ticket online and present it at check-in. Tickets are scanned prior to the start of class.
What should I wear for the cooking class?
For demo-style classes, any comfortable attire is perfect; you’ll be sitting, observing, and tasting, but not standing for long periods of time.
For hands-on classes, you’ll be standing while prepping and cooking, so please wear comfortable clothing (we recommend jeans and a t-shirt), and non-slip, closed-toe shoes that will protect your feet (like sneakers, boots, or boat shoes). Sandals and flip flops are not permitted for safety reasons. Long hair (men and women) must be pulled back and/or pinned up during prep and cooking time, and with the exception of a plain band-style ring (like a wedding band without stones or inlays), jewelry must be removed before prep and cooking begins, so we recommend valuables be left at home.
Where do I keep my purse and things during class?
Personal belongings, such as a purse, water bottle, sweater, or jacket may be kept in a designated area in the teaching kitchen.
Do we eat what we make?
Yes! During every class, you’ll enjoy a generous tasting plate of everything we make.
Do I need prior cooking experience?
Classes are designed for all levels of cooking, so previous experience is not needed. A short food safety and knife skills lesson is provided at the start of every class.
Do you offer wine or may I bring my own bottle to enjoy during class?
Not at this time. We are unable to serve or allow bring-your-own wine in our establishment without a liquor license. On occasion however, we partner with professional consultants who are licensed to serve alcohol as part of our cooking classes, and will be noted in class descriptions.
What’s the difference between a demo class and hands-on class?
Demo classes allow you to kick back, relax, and watch the cooking while tasting everything the chef makes. The small class size creates a conversational and interactive setting with the chef, where you’re encouraged to ask questions while you enjoy the tasting plates she prepares for you. Demonstration classes are ideal date nights, special celebrations, or a fun night out — it’s like watching Food Network, but in person.
Hands-on classes allow you to prep and cook along with the chef. Small class sizes ensure one-on-one instruction and interactive setting with the chef, while she moves throughout the classroom, providing advice and guiding you through techniques. No cooking experience is necessary. Recipes, instruction, and a short knife skills and food safety lesson will be provided during the class. Hands-on classes are perfect for those wanting to try different techniques, and great for networking, couples, or an entertaining evening out.
How long is a class?
The length of a class will vary, depending on the type of class. Demos and cooking classes are about 90 minutes. Seminars are typically an hour long, private lessons about one to two hours, and boot camps are typically 2+ hours. Class times and length, along with other class details will be listed in the class description.
Do you offer classes for kids and teens?
We’ll be launching programs for kids and teens in the future. All current classes, unless otherwise noted in the class title or description, are for adults 18 and over.
What if I have food allergies or special dietary needs?
If you have food allergies or special dietary needs, please indicate online when ordering tickets, and we will do our best to make reasonable accommodations. We are peanut- and soy-free, however we often cook with gluten-containing flours, fish, shellfish, dairy, eggs, and tree nuts. Once these packages are open, their dust and particles are in the air, so if cross contact is an issue, or your reactions are severe enough to cause anaphylaxis or other life-threatening allergic reactions, we recommend you do not enroll in a cooking class as we’re not able to guarantee a 100% allergy-free environment.
Is there assigned seating for the cooking classes?
Seating is first come, and every seat in the house is a good seat!
I have a service animal, can they be with me during class?
Service animals are not permitted in the teaching kitchen, as this area is considered a non-communal food prep area. If you require the assistance of a state-recognized service animal, and would like to sign up for a cooking class, please make arrangements to attend without the service animal present; service animals may not be held in the retail area during class. Please be advised emotional support animals are not permitted in the retail or teaching kitchen areas.
What if I have to cancel?
Cancellations may be made up to 48 hours in advance of the class start time to receive a full refund or transfer to another class of equal value. Cancellations must be made by phone by calling 321-474-6346. We do not offer refunds, credit, or transfers for last-minute illnesses, personal, or work-related conflicts. Cancellations made in less than 48 hours will not be refunded or transferred.
What if class is cancelled?
In the event that we have to cancel a class, we will always notify you by email at least 24 hours in advance, and provide you with an option for a full refund or a store credit — whichever you choose.
A note about smoking:
We’re all about good health, so we appreciate and thank you for not smoking near our front door or extinguishing on our walkway.
When taking a cooking class, we don’t want you to miss a thing, and recommend breaks be taken before or after class. If you absolutely must step away during class, we appreciate you going to your car or stepping away from the building to prevent smoke from entering through the front door, and then washing your hands before returning to the teaching kitchen, as the smell of smoke can negatively affect the healthy cooking experience of those around you.
Where are you located?
We’re conveniently located in the Clermont Landing Plaza, across from Epic Theater, next to Kay Jeweler, 2419 S. Highway 27, Suite 200, Clermont, 34711.
Just minutes from the Florida Turnpike in beautiful Lake County, our teaching kitchen and store is an easy drive from all points, typically with minimal traffic. We’re about 10 minutes from Groveland and Minneola; about 20 minutes from Winter Garden and Leesburg; about 30 minutes from The Villages, Eustis, Tavares, Mount Dora, and Davenport; and about 40 minutes from Orlando and Winter Park.
What are your store hours?
Our retail store hours are:
Wednesday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Sunday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Where should I park?
There is a small parking lot in front of our building, with a few additional parking spaces that run along the side of the building, as well as ample parking throughout the plaza. Parking spaces fill up fast on weekend evenings and peak movie theater times, so plan for a few extra minutes to find a parking spot during those times.
What method of payments do you accept?
We accept Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover, and This Honest Food Gift Cards only. **Please note — We do not accept cash, and we do not keep cash in the store.
Do you offer gift certificates?
We offer gift cards, which may be purchased in the store in any amount.
Do you offer a wedding registry?
We do not offer wedding registry services at this time. It’s our pleasure, however, to help you put together the perfect gift for the couple who loves to cook.
Can I purchase merchandise online?
Not at this time, however you may purchase tickets for cooking classes online.
What is your merchandise return policy?
Refunds and merchandise exchanges are available within 14 days of purchase with a receipt. For products with warranties, please contact the manufacturer directly for returns or repairs.
