Health Coaching FAQ

Have you heard about health and wellness coaching, but not sure what it’s all about, or if it’s right for you? Below are answers to our most frequently asked coaching questions.

What is a health coach?
A health coach is an expert in the process of health behavior change, working in partnership with you to help improve and maintain personal accountability, and set goals with actionable steps to achieve and sustain health-supporting behaviors. We help you create a plan and a path to wellness, and help you stay on track. And we listen, which is a vital part of coaching, and one often missed in the healthcare industry these days.

Do health coaches collaborate with other healthcare professionals like physicians or dietitians?
Yes. While a health coach should never replace a doctor or other licensed practitioner, working with a coach can often serve as a bridge between medical recommendations and taking action to create and maintain healthy behaviors. At This Honest Food, we’re able to spend more time with you, supporting you as you move forward with the recommended health-supporting changes. Using a root-cause approach, we also help you research questions and pinpoint areas of concern to discuss with your doctor before your visit, so every visit is more productive.

What types of clients do you typically work with?
Our clients are individuals and families who are motivated to improve their health for a variety of reasons. Typical goals include weight loss, healthier cooking and eating, and changes associated with disease prevention, reversal, or management through food.

Do we meet in person or over the phone?
We do both. If you’re local, we can meet in person at a variety of places in Clermont. Or, if it’s more convenient, or if you’re out-of-state, we can hold our coaching sessions over the phone. Each option also offers ongoing email support as well.

How long do clients work with you?
Coaching sessions vary based on where you are in your health journey and where you’d like to be. We offer a single session for those who just need reassurance or guidance in a specific area; a 4-week or 6-week Jumpstart Program, or a 3-month session that can be extended as needed.

What are your credentials?
I have a Master of Science degree in Health and Nutrition Education, a degree in Culinary Management, an Executive Chef Certification, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design and Marketing, and frequently participate in continuing education programs such as the Functional Nutrition Lab’s Digestive Intensive program, and Rouxbe’s Plant-Based Cooking School. I’m also constantly researching and dissecting health studies, and have been working in the field of health and nutrition education, with a focus on special diet needs, since 2009.

I’d like to see if coaching is for me, can I do so without purchasing any sessions?
Yes, we offer free 20-minute Discovery Call. We’ll talk about your goals, discuss my approach, and determine whether we’re a good fit for working together.
